Honeywell announced on September 18 that it had reached two major milestones in the production of auxiliary power units (APUs). The first of these was the delivery of the 100,000th APU, and the second was the delivery of 15,000th of its most popular variant – the 131-9 – which is currently in use aboard many aircraft.

More than 36,000 of the company’s APUs, which were first launched in 1950, are in service today aboard more than 150 various platforms, including both fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft. The company has been producing the 131-9, which is best suited to such narrow-body aircraft as the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320, since 2009. More than 13,000 131-9 APUs are in service today.
