Minister of Treasury and Finance Joins Defence Industry Executive Committee

The Presidential Decree Amending the Presidential Decree on the Presidency of Defence Industries was issued in Official Gazette number 30554 dated October 3, 2018, and sees the Minister of Treasury and Finance becoming a member of the Defence Industry Executive Committee (SSİK).

The first SSİK meeting following this organisational change took place on October 11 at the Presidential Palace under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, during which the main topics on the Committee’s agenda were discussed. After the meeting, the following announcement was made concerning the decisions taken:

“The meeting held today reviewed projects and took new decisions with the aim of making new additions to the host of national and indigenous systems that have enhanced the effectiveness of our security forces, which are successfully conducting operations not only within our borders, but also across borders, ensuring the security of our national frontiers.

During the meeting, numerous decisions were taken concerning the development, strengthening and support of the defence sector and defence technologies, and regarding various investment and improvement activities aimed at exports.

In this context, we have assessed various projects related to the initiation of the Advanced ATAK Helicopter programme; the development of various UAVs/Armed UAVs, naval and land vehicles, electronic warfare and jamming systems, smart munitions and weapon systems; and the meeting of the various needs expressed by our security forces.”

On the same day as the meeting, the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) issued a request for proposal for the Aircraft Arrestor System (AAS) Procurement Project, involving the acquisition of an AAS for the Turkish Air Force. The said system comprises various subsystems such as an arrestor hook, mesh barrier and mobile AAS.
