Sikorsky announced on September 24 that the HH-60W new generation combat rescue helicopter had been cleared for Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) after receiving approval from the U.S. Air Force (USAF). Prior to this decision, the helicopter had undergone comprehensive testing involving a total of 150 flight hours by Sikorsky and the USAF test team.

The 113 HH-60W helicopters to be produced under the Combat Rescue Helicopter (CRH) program are expected to replace the Sikorsky HH-60G PAVE HAWK helicopters in the USAF inventory. There are currently five helicopters in at various stages of production in Sikorsky’s facilities. The HH-60W has a combat radius of 195 nautical miles, and is superior to the HH-60G in such parameters as internal fuel tank capacity, firepower, electrical capacity, cybersecurity and self-defence capabilities.
