SpetsTechnoExport special coverage for the Arms & Security 2018 exhibition:

SpetsTechnoExport (STE) was among the companies participating at the exhibition under the umbrella of Ukroboronprom. Established in 1998 with a view to facilitating the import and export activities of Ukrainian defence and aerospace companies, SpetsTechnoExport is a state-owned, self-supporting enterprise that has been carrying out its activities under the umbrella of Ukroboronprom since 2010.

The company signed a memorandum of understanding with ASELSAN on the first day of the exhibition relating to joint production, but has already been engaged in many other projects concerning Turkey in the past.

SpetsTechnoExport has already completed many projects in Turkey, especially for ASELSAN, and there are many others underway. One such project has been the integration of Skif missiles into ASELSAN’s Anti-Tank Missile Launching System, which was completed recently under the coordination of SpetsTechnoExport.

Ukrainian Systems to Protect Turkish Tanks

The integration of the ZASLON-L active protection system (APS) onto various armoured vehicles in Turkey, as well as efforts aimed at joint production in Turkey, are underway. The supply and testing of the first batch of products within the project are continuing, and serial production of the system in Turkey will commence following the successful completion of all tests. Speaking to MSI TDR about the agreement, Vladyslav Belbas, Deputy Director of SpetsTechnoExport said: “We know that Turkey has already developed such systems in this field, however, our solution is a ready-to-use product that can be rapidly integrated onto the tanks. Turkey already has the necessary infrastructure to manufacture this highly economical product very easily.”

SpetsTechnoExport is also conducting a project with ROKETSAN on explosive reactive armours (ERA). Deliveries of the first batch of products are underway, and the initial tests in the project will be conducted in the coming months. Once the tests, carried out as a joint effort of the two companies, are completed successfully, talks on serial production will be launched, along with the issue of joint production.

Both systems are intended for use on M60 main battle tanks, although their modular and scalable universal structure allows them to be adapted to various different vehicles. All tanks in the inventory of the Ukrainian Ground Forces are already equipped with the ERA version.

We’re Open to New Collaborations

Having been in talks with BMC Power for the powerpacks of armoured vehicles, SpetsTechnoExport is also working with the Mechanical and Chemical Industry Company (MKEK) on certain projects, the details of which have not yet been revealed.

Mr. Belbas, commenting on potential cooperation with Turkey, said: “We are delighted to be cooperating with Turkish defence and aerospace companies. There has for centuries been a very close relationship between our nations, however, its level has reached a peak in recent years, achieving a strategic dimension at all governmental levels.
